Upgrade of the PEP - II Low Beta Optics 1

چکیده

The successful commissioning and operation of the PEP-II asymmetric ee collider motivated further studies to increase luminosity. In this paper, we discuss a modification of the PEP-II lattice to reduce the vertical beta function at the Interaction Point (IP) from the design value of β∗ y = 1.5cm to 1.0cm. This could potentially reduce the colliding beam size, increase the particle density at IP and the probability of beam-beam interactions. In this paper, we outline the optics modifications, discuss tracking simulations, and overview machine implementation. Localized Chromaticity Correction of Low - Beta Instxtions in Storage Rings ’

AbsfTtlCt The correction of the chromaticity of low-beta insertions in the storage rings is usual1 made with sextu le lenses in the ring’s arcs. When ecreasing the beta Kp B n&ions at the insertion point GI’), this technique becomes fairly ineffective, since it fails to properly correct the higher order chromatic aberrations. Here we consider the approach where the chromatic effects of the quad...

PEP - II Beta Beat Fixes with MIA

We first find a virtual accelerator for the HER or the LER through determination of all quadrupole strengths and sextupole feed-downs as well as all BPM gains and BPM cross-plane couplings by an SVD-enhanced Least-squares fitting of the quantities derivable from a complete set of orbits. These quantities are the phase advances, the Green's functions, and the tilt angles and axis ratios of the c...

Optics Characterization and Correction at Pep-ii

The linear optics of both the high energy ring (HER) and low energy ring (LER) for SLAC’s PEP-II B-Factory were characterized with two algorithms: analysis of the measured closed orbit response matrix and analysis of betatron phase advance measurements. The results of the two analyses were in good agreement. When the HER was first run in a low optics in autumn 1997, the measured functions showe...

Ir Upgrade Plans for the Pep-ii B-factory*

PEP-II, the SLAC, LBNL, LLNL B-factory has achieved a peak luminosity of over 9×10 cms, more than 3 times the design luminosity, and plans to obtain a luminosity of over 1×10 cm sec in the next year. In order to push the luminosity performance of PEP-II to even higher levels an upgrade to the interaction region (IR) is being designed. In the present design, the interaction point (IP) is a head-...

Streak-camera Measurements with High Currents in Pep-ii and Variable Optics in Spear3

A dual-axis, synchroscan streak camera was used to measure longitudinal bunch profiles in three storage rings at SLAC: the PEP-II lowand high-energy rings, and SPEAR3. At high currents, both PEP rings exhibit a transient synchronous-phase shift along the bunch train due to RF-cavity beam loading. Bunch length and profile asymmetry were measured along the train for a range of beam currents. To a...
